The crisis of masculinity and the courage to be vulnerable: highlights from Toowoomba engagements

I was so thankful to be able to travel from the ACT to Toowoomba, QLD, last week! There were many challenges getting there, including needing to re-route last minute – meaning a 10-hour journey to get there. But it was worth it to present to students at The Glennie School, Concordia Lutheran College and St Joseph’s College and a combined parent event hosted by Glennie. Special thanks to all the staff who made it possible.

There were many highlights…among them Jack, 14, a student at St Joseph’s. Jack is living proof boys can rise above the sludge of a sick society and choose to live a better way. Thanks Jack!

Another highlight was talking with Joe Cryle, Assistant Principal – Student Engagement at St Joseph’s.

Here’s Joe sharing his reflections on how we need to give boys “the courage to be vulnerable”. Joe is another man I have been encouraged to meet along the way who is a fine role-model for the boys he teaches.

I was heartened by the desire of many of the young men I met last week to rise above stereotypes and be their best selves.

The girls were engaged and passionate about acting personally and collectively to change things too.

Here I am with some of the young women of The Glennie School, in their beautiful courtyard garden.

And here are the strong and articulate Yr 7 students Imogen, 13, Akor, 12, Bella, 13 + Lavnish, 14, reflecting on what they took from my message.

Adelaide/Murray Bridge next!

Daniel Principe and I will be speaking at Hills Community Christian school Monday November 2 to students and a combined parent event that evening. The next day we will spend with students at Unity College, Murray Bridge.

And stay tuned for more schools bookings taking shape in NSW and QLD November and December.
