Child safeguarding specialist lawyer Maha Melhem of Melhem Legal & Consulting and I co-facilitated PD sessions across two days addressing harmful sexual behaviours with school leaders, wellbeing and inclusion staff hosted by Independent Schools Tasmania. The impact on students’ mental health, perception of norms, social interaction and community engagement is significant and troubling. IST this week ran professional development with Melinda Tankard Reist and Maha Melhem to assist schools in understanding this issue, and steps they can take to proactively build protective communities supportive of students and staff and best practice responses. It was great to see so many school leadership teams in both the south and north of the state committed to this important learning and work.”
